6. உற்ற இடத்தில் உயிர் வழங்கும் தன்மையோர்
பற்றலரைக் கண்டால் பணிவரோ? கல் தூண்
பிளந்து இறுவது அல்லால் பெரும்பாரம் தாங்கின்
தளர்ந்து வளையுமோ தான்

பொருள்:
கல் தூண் ஓரளவுக்கு மேல் பாரத்தை ஏற்றினால் உடைந்து விழுந்து விடுமேயல்லாது, வளைந்து போகாது.  அது போலவே மானக்குறைவு ஏற்பட்டால் உயிரை விட்டு விடும்
தன்மையுள்ளவர்கள் எதிரிகளைக் கண்டால் பணிவதில்லை.

A stone pillar will not bend but break if you put on it excess load. Similarly, strong men will not be afraid of enemies, but will give away their life if they face mental agony.

7. நீர் அளவே ஆகுமாம் நீர் ஆம்பல்; தான் கற்ற
நூல் அளவே ஆகுமாம் நுண் அறிவு - மேலைத்
தவத்து அளவே ஆகுமாம் தான் பெற்ற செல்வம்
குலத்து அளவே ஆகும் குணம்

பொருள்:
 அல்லிப்பூ நீரின் அளவு எவ்வளவு இருக்கிறதோ அவ்வளவே வளரும்.  நாம் கற்ற நூல்களின் அளவே நம் அறிவு.   முற்பிறப்பில் செய்த புண்ய கார்யங்களின் அளவே நாம் இப்போது அனுபவிக்கும் செல்வம்.  குணம் நாம் தோன்றிய குலத்தின் அளவே.

The root of the lotus flower will be equal to the depth of the water on which it grows. Similarly, our intelligence is equal to the number of books that we have read.  The wealth that we enjoy in this life is equal to the virtue that we had amassed in our previous life. Our character is equal to the family in which we are born.

8. நல்லாரைக் காண்பதுவும் நன்றே; நலம் மிக்க
நல்லார் சொல் கேட்பதுவும் நன்றே - நல்லார்
குணங்கள் உரைப்பதுவும் நன்றே அவரோடு
இணங்கி இருப்பதுவும் நன்று.

பொருள்:
நல்லவர்களைக் காண்பதும், நமக்கு நன்மை பயக்கும் அவர் சொல்லைக் கேட்பதுவும், அவர்கள் குணங்களை  மற்றவரிடத்தில் சொல்வதுவும், அவர்களோடு சேர்ந்து இருப்பதுவும் நல்லது.

It is good to visit wise men and listen to their words. It is also good to tell about their goodness to others and to be in their midst.

9. தீயாரைக் காண்பதுவும் தீதே; திரு அற்ற
தீயார் சொல் கேட்பதுவும் தீதே - தீயார்
குணங்கள் உரைப்பதுவும் தீதே; அவரோடு
இணங்கி இருப்பதுவும் தீது

பொருள்:
 தீயவர்களைப் பார்ப்பதும், பயனற்ற அவர் சொல்லைக்  கேட்பதுவும், அவர்களைப் பற்றி அடுத்தவர்களிடத்தில்  சொல்வதுவும், அவர்களோடு சேர்ந்து இருப்பதுவும் நமக்குக் கெடுதியே.

It is bad to visit mean men and listen to their words. It is also bad to talk about them to others and to be in their midst.

10. நெல்லுக்கு இறைத்த நீர் வாய்க்கால் வழி ஓடிப்
புல்லுக்கும் ஆங்கே பொசியுமாம் - தொல் உலகில்
நல்லார் ஒருவர் உளரேல் அவர் பொருட்டு
எல்லார்க்கும் பெய்யும் மழை

பொருள்:
 உழவன் நெல்லுக்குப் பாய்ச்சும் நீர் அங்கிருக்கும் புல்லுக்கும் பயனைத் தரும்.  அது போலவே இந்தப் பழமையான உலகில் நல்லவர் ஒருவர்க்காகப் பெய்யும் மழை (பலன்கள்) எல்லாருக்குமே பயனைத் தரும்.

The farmer irrigates only his crops, but the grass that is nearby also is benefited. Similarly, the rain pours down only on account of good men. However all are benefitted by it.
