Translation - மூதுரை - ஔவை - 11 to 20

Song 11.

பண்டு முளைப்பது அரிசியே ஆனாலும்
விண்டு உமி போனால் முளையாதாம் கொண்ட பேர்
ஆற்றல் உடையார்க்கும் ஆகாது அளவின்றி
ஏற்றம் கருமம் செயல்.

பொருள்:  நமக்குப் பயன் தருவது கடைசியில் அரிசியே  ஆனாலும், அது உமி இன்றி முளைப்பதில்லை. // We only use the rice grains from the rice crop. However, if the grain is separated from the husk, then it does not grow any further.

அது போலவே பேராற்றல் உடையவர்கள் செய்யும் செயலும் அடுத்தவர் துணையின்றி முடிவதில்லை. // Similarly, even if a person has done a great job with his exceptional talent, unless due help is rendered to him, it may not bear any fruit.

Song 12.

மடல் பெரிது தாழை; மகிழ் இனிது கந்தம்
உடல் சிறியர் என்று இருக்க வேண்டா - கடல் பெரிது
மண்ணீரும் ஆகாது; அதன் அருகே சிற்றூறல்
உண்ணீரும் ஆகிவிடும்.

பொருள்: தாழம்பூவின் மடல் பெரிதாக இருந்தாலும் வாசம்  தருவதில்லை.

...The petals of thazhampoo flower is very big in size, but it does not give out any fragrance.

ஆனால் அதனின் சிறிய மகிழம்பூவோ நல்ல வாசனையைத் தருகிறது.

...But the tiny magilampoo flower gives out excellent fragrance.

பெருங்கடலின் நீர் துணி தோய்க்கக் கூட உதவுவதில்லை,

...The water taken from the gigantic sea can not be used even for washing our clothes.

ஆனால் அதனருகிலேயே தோன்றும் சிறு ஊற்று  குடிப்பதற்கும் நல்ல நீரைத் தருகிறது

...On the contrary, the water taken from a small spring, dug out near the sea, can be used for drinking.

எனவே உருவத்தை வைத்து ஒருவரை எடை போடக் கூடாது.

...Hence, we should not judge a person just based on his looks or appearance.

Song 13.

கவையாகிக் கொம்பாகிக் காட்டகத்தே நிற்கும்
அவையல்ல நல்லமரங்கள் - சபை நடுவே
நீட்டு ஓலை வாசியா நின்றான் குறிப்பு அறிய
மாட்டாதவன் நன் மரம்.

பொருள்: கிளைகளோடும், கொம்புகளோடும் காட்டில் நிற்பவை  மரங்கள் அல்ல.

...The trees that spread out branches and leaves in the forest are not real trees.

சபையின் நடுவே ஒருவர் தரும் ஓலையில்  எழுதியிருப்பதைப் படிக்கத் தெரியாதவனும், அடுத்தவர் மனதை அறியாதவனுமே மரம் போன்றவன்.

...A person who is incapable of reading out a written document in a public meeting and a person who can not read the minds of others is only a real tree. (The author indirectly insists that a person should posses these two skills without fail).

Song 14.

கான மயில் ஆடக் கண்டிருந்த வான் கோழி
தானும் அதுவாக பாவித்துத் - தானும் தன்
பொல்லாச் சிறகை விரித்து ஆடினாற் போலும்
கல்லாதான் கற்ற கவி.

பொருள்: காட்டில் மயில் ஆடுவதைப் பார்த்த வான்கோழி உடனே தன்னையும் அதைப் போலவே நினைத்து தன்னுடைய அழகில்லாத சிறகை விரித்து ஆடுவதை போன்றதே,

(Sentence below) ... is like the ostrich in the forest spreading out its wings and dancing imagining itself to be a beautiful peacock.

கல்வி கற்காதவன் சொல்லும் கவிதையும்,

...An uneducated person attempting to read out a poem,...

அதனால் ஒரு பயனும் இல்லை.  விஷயமும் இல்லை.

It is of no use.

Song 15.

வேங்கை வரிப்புலி நோய் தீர்த்த விடகாரி
ஆங்கு அதனுக்க ஆகாரம் ஆனாற்போல பாங்கு அறியா
புல் அறிவாளர்க்குச் செய்த உபகாரம்
கல்லின் மேல் இட்ட கலம்.

பொருள்: புலிக்கு நோயைக் குணமாக்கிய விஷத்தைப் போக்கும்  வைத்தியன் உடனே அதற்கே உணவாவது நிச்சயம்...

=== A stupid healer who tries to cure the unconscious tiger, is sure to be eaten immediately by it.

 அதைப்  போன்றதே நன்றி அறியாத அற்பர்களுக்கு நாம் செய்யும்  உதவியும்.

...The help that we do to mean and selfish people is similar to this.

கல்லின் மேல் எறியப்பட்ட பானையைப் போல அந்த உதவியும் நம்மையே உடன் அழித்து விடும்.

...Like the earthen pot that had been thrown on a rock, our help to such people will also vanish in no time.

Song 16.

அடக்கம் உடையார் அறிவிலர் என்று எண்ணிக்
கடக்கக் கருதவும் வேண்டா - மடைத் தலையில்
ஓடுமீன் ஓட உறுமீன் வரும் அளவும்
வாடியிருக்குமாம் கொக்கு.

பொருள்: நீர் பாயும் தலை மடையில் பல சிறு மீன்கள் ஓடிக் கொண்டிருந்தாலும், கொக்கு வாடியிருப்பதைப் போலக் காத்துக் கொண்டிருக்கும்.

... A stork or crane may be waiting in the gushing fore stream looking dejected.

எது வரை?
... How long it may wait?

தனக்குரிய பெரிய மீன் வரும் வரை.
... Until a big and fatty fish arrives!

அதைப் போலவே அறிஞர்களின் அடக்கமும்.  அதைக் கண்டு அவர்களை  அலக்ஷ்யம் செய்து வென்று விட நினைக்கக்கூடாது.

... Similarly, we should not look down up wise men who are calm and quiet. And think of winning them casually.

Song 17.

அற்ற குளத்தில் அறு நீர்ப்பறவை போல்
உற்றுழித் தீர்வார் உறவு அல்லர்; அக்குளத்தில்
கொட்டியும் ஆம்பலும் நெய்தலும் போலவே
ஒட்டி உறுவார் உறவு.

பொருள்:  குளத்தில் நீர் வற்றிய உடன் விலகிச் செல்லும் பறவைகள்  போல,

...Like the birds that desert a lake as soon as it gets dried ...

நமக்குத் துன்பம் வந்தபோது நம்மை விட்டு விலகிச் செல்பவர்கள் உறவினர் அல்லர்.

... the relatives who go away from us, as soon as one get problems, are not real relatives.

அந்தக் குளத்திலேயே  அப்போதும் சேர்ந்து வாடும் கொட்டி, அல்லி, நெய்தல் கொடிகளைப் போல,

Like the flowers Lily, kotti, neythal....

நம்முடனேயே நம் துன்பங்களையும் பகிர்ந்து கொள்பவர்களே நம் உறவு.

...those who stay along with the person and share his pains,  are only TRUE RELATIVES.

Song 18.

சீரியர் கெட்டாலும் சீரியரே; சீரியர் மற்று
அல்லாதார் கெட்டால் அங்கு என்னாகும்? - சீரிய
பொன்னின் குடம் உடைந்தால் பொன்னாகும்; என் ஆகும்
மண்ணின் குடம் உடைந்தக் கால்?

பொருள்:  பொற்குடம் உடைந்தாலும் பொன்னாகிப் பயன் தரும்.

... If a golden pot gets broken, it does not loses its value. It is still gold.

அதுபோல மேன்மக்கள் வறுமை அடைந்தாலும் மேன்மைக் குணத்திலிருந்து மாறுபடார்.

... Similarly,  wise and noble people do not lose their high character traits even if they become poor.

மண்ணால் ஆகிய குடம் உடைந்தால் ஒன்றுக்கும் பயன்படாது.

... But an earthen pot will be of no use, if it gets broken.

அதுபோல, கீழோர் வறுமை அடைந்தால் மேலும் கீழ்மைக் குணம் உடையவராவர்.

... Similarly, if mean people become poor, they further become mean or bad.

Song 19.

ஆழ அமுக்கி முகக்கினும் ஆழ்கடல் நீர்
நாழி முகவாது நானாழி - தோழி
நிதியும் கணவனும் நேர் படினும் தம்தம்
விதியின் பயனே பயன்.

பொருள்:  தோழி! எவ்வளவு தான் அமுக்கி, பெரும் கடலிலே  முகந்தாலும், ஒரு நாழி (படி) அளவுள்ள பாத்திரம் நான்கு படி நீரை முகவாது.

.... My friend,  however hard and deeper you may sink a one litre jug in the sea, it will never fetch you more than one litres of water.

நல்ல கணவனும், செல்வமும் நிறைந்திருந்தும் நமக்குக் கிடைக்கும் சுகத்தின் அளவும் அதைப் போன்றதே.

....Similarly,  even if a women gets a good husband and huge wealth, the happiness that she may get had already been defined.

 அது நம் முன் ஜன்ம நல் வினைகளின் அளவைப் பொறுத்தது.

...It is in direct proportion to the good deeds she did in her previous births.

Song .20.

உடன் பிறந்தார் சுற்றத்தார் என்று இருக்க வேண்டா
உடன் பிறந்தே கொல்லும் வியாதி - உடன் பிறவா
மாமலையில் உள்ள மருந்தே பிணி தீர்க்கும்
அம் மருந்து போல் வாரும் உண்டு.

பொருள்:  வி்யாதி நம்முடனேயே பிறந்து நம்மைக் கொன்று விடுகிறது. 

== A disease comes to our body. Then it develops and finally kills us.

எனவே உடன் பிறந்தோர் எல்லாரையும் நம் உறவு என்று நினைக்க முடியாது.

== We can't assume that all our brothers and sisters are true relatives.

 உடன் பிறக்காது எங்கோ பெரிய மலையில் இருக்கும் மருந்து நம் வி்யாதியைத் தீர்ப்பது போல,

== A rare medicinal plant that grew somewhere in a far away mountain, even may cure our disease.

அன்னியரும் நமக்கு நன்மை தருபவராக இருக்கக் கூடும்.

== Similarly, someone not so close to us, may even do good to us.
