Song 21.

இல்லாள் அகத்து இருக்க இல்லாதது ஒன்று இல்லை
இல்லாளும் இல்லாளே ஆமாயின் - இல்லாள்
வலி கிடந்த மாற்றம் உரைக்குமேல் அவ்இல்
புலி கிடந்த தூறாய் விடும்.

பொருள்:  நல்ல மனைவி மட்டும் அமைந்து விட்டால் அந்த இல்லத்தில்  இல்லாதது என்று எதுவுமே இல்லை.

.... If you happen to get a  "good" wife, you need no other wealth in your home.

ஆனால் அந்த இல்லாள் (மனைவி) குணமில்லாதவளாக (இல்லாள்) இருந்து விட்டாலோ, கடுமையான எதிர் வார்த்தைகள் பேசி விட்டாலோ அந்த இல்லம் புலியின் குகை போலாகி விடும்.

... However, if your wife happens to be bad or vetos your words, then your home turns into a den where tigers live.

Song 22.

எழுதியவாறே தான் இரங்கும் மட நெஞ்சே!
கருதியவாறு ஆமோ கருமம்? - கருதிப் போய்க்
கற்பகத்தைச் சேர்தோர்க்குக் காஞ்சிரங்காய் ஈந்ததேல்
முற்பவத்தில் செய்த வினை.

பொருள்: மட நெஞ்சே! திட்டத்தோடு கற்பக மரத்திடம் சென்றாலும், எட்டிக்காயே கிடைத்ததென்றால்

.. Oh stupid mind ! Even if after doing penance and you got only bitter  gourd from the sacred karpaga tree ....

அது நம் முன் வினைப் பயனே.

.... it is only because of your deeds in your previous lives.

விதியில் எழுதியுள்ளபடிதான் நமக்குக் கிடைக்குமே அல்லாது

.... you will get only what has already been predefined by your fate

நாம் நினைப்பதெல்லாமா நடந்து விடும்?

... and will not get what you wished.

Song  23.

கற்பிளவோடு ஒப்பர் கயவர்; கடும் சினத்துப்
பொற் பிளவோடு ஒப்பாரும் போல்வாரே - வில்பிடித்து
நீர் கிழிய எய்த வடுப் போல மாறுமே
சீர் ஒழுகு சான்றோர் சினம்.

பொருள்:  சிறு வேறுபாடு வந்தாலே தாழ்ந்தோர் பிளந்து போட்ட கல்லைப் போலப் பிரிந்து விடுவர்... Mean people will split at the drop of a hat or  even for a minor difference of opinion. They are like stones.

பெரும் சினத்தால் பிரிந்தாலும் பெரியோர், பிளந்த தங்கத்தைப் போல மீண்டும் சேர்ந்து விடுவர். ... However, wise men are like the cracks or splits in gold. They will join together very easily.

அவர்கள் கோபம், ஒருவர் எய்த அம்பால் நீரில் உண்டான வடுவைப் போன்றதே. ...Their anger is like the ripples created in the water pool by an arrow.  It will vanish in no time.

Song 24.

 நற்றாமரைக் கயத்தில் நல் அன்னம் சேர்ந்தார் போல்
கற்றாரைக் கற்றாரே காமுறுவர் - கற்பிலா
மூர்க்கரை மூர்க்கர் முகப்பர் முதுகாட்டில்
காக்கை உகக்கும் பிணம்.

பொருள்:  குளத்தில் பூத்திருக்கும் தாமரையை அன்னப்பறவை சேர்ந்தது போல கற்றவர்களைக் கற்றவர்களே விரும்பிச் சேர்வர்.

... The ducks and swans are lured or attracted by the lily flowers that blossom in ponds. Similarly, learned scholars are attracted to other learned scholars.

சுடுகாட்டில் பிணத்தைக் காக்கைச் சேர்வது போல, கல்வி அறிவில்லாத மூடரை, மூடர்களே சேர்வர்.

... Similarly, uneducated idiots are attracted to other idiots. --- like the vultures that get lured by carcasses.

Song 25.

நஞ்சு உடைமை தான் அறிந்து நாகம் கரந்து உறையும்
அஞ்சாப் புறம் கிடக்கும் நீர்ப் பாம்பு - நெஞ்சில்
கரவுடையார் தம்மைக் கரப்பர் கரவார்
கரவிலா நெஞ்சத் தவர்.

பொருள்: தன்னிடம் விஷமிருப்பதை அறிந்து நாகப்பாம்பு மறைந்து வாழும்.

... The King Cobra knows that it has powerful venom within its body, hence it lives an underground life.

 விஷமில்லாத தண்ணீர்ப் பாம்போ பயமில்லாது எங்கும் வெளியில் திரிந்து கொண்டிருக்கும்.

... However, the ordinary water snake will go around very freely without any fear.

அதைப் போலவே நெஞ்சில் குற்றம் உடையவர்களும் அதை மறைத்தே வாழ்ந்து கொண்டிருப்பர்,

குற்றமில்லாதவர்களோ கபடமின்றி வெளியில் திரிந்து கொண்டிருப்பர்.

மன்னனும் மாசு அறக் கற்றோனும் சீர் தூக்கின்
மன்னனில் கற்றோன் சிறப்பு உடையன் - மன்னர்க்குத்
தன் தேசம் அல்லால் சிறப்பு இல்லை கற்றோர்க்குச்
சென்ற இடம் எல்லாம் சிறப்பு.

பொருள்: ஒப்பிட்டு பார்க்கும் போது, அரசனை விட, கசடறக்  கற்றவனே மேலானவன்.

.... By comparison a learned scholar is better than a king.

ஏனென்றால், அரசனுக்கு அவன்  தேசத்தைத் தவிர வேறெங்கும் சிறப்பு இல்லை.

.... Because, a king will not be respected out of his country.

ஆனால் கற்றவனுக்கோ அவன் செல்லுமிடமில்லாம் சிறப்பு.

... On the contrary, a learned man will be respected whereever he goes.

Song 27.

கல்லாத மாந்தர்க்குக் கற்று உணர்ந்தார் சொல் கூற்றம்
அல்லாத மாந்தர்க்கு அறம் கூற்றம் - மெல்லிய
வாழைக்குத் தான் ஈன்ற காய் கூற்றம் கூற்றமே
இல்லிற்கு இசைந்து ஒழுகாப் பெண்.

பொருள்: கற்றறிந்தவர் வார்த்தை கற்காதவர்களுக்கு துன்பத்தைத் தரும்.

.... The words of a wise man will give pains to an uneducated person.

தர்மம் தீயவர்களைத் அழிக்கும்,

... And charity will destroy bad people.

மெல்லிய வாழைக்கு அதன்  கன்று அழிவைத் தரும்.

... The shoots of the slender stemmed banana tree will bring about an end to the parent tree.

வாழ்க்கைக்குப் பொருந்தி நடக்காத மனைவி அந்த வீட்டிற்கு அழிவைத் தருவாள்.

... A wife who does not get along with her husband, will destroy the family.

Song 28.

சந்தன மென் குறடு தான் தேய்ந்த காலத்தும்
கந்தம் குறை படாது; ஆதலால் - தம்தம்
தனம் சிறியர் ஆயினும் தார் வேந்தர் கேட்டால்
மனம் சிறியர் ஆவரோ மற்று?

பொருள்:  தேய்ந்து மெலிந்திருந்தாலும் சந்தனம் மணம் குறைவதில்லை.

... The fragrance emanating sandal wood will continue to provide sweet scent, even after it becomes thin and slender due to usage.

அதைப் போலவே தாராள குணம் படைத்த அரசர்களும் தன் பொக்கிஷம் குறைந்த காலத்தும் மனம் மாறுவதில்லை.

... Similarly, the generous minded king's mental disposition does not change even if his wealth becomes low.

Song 29.

மருவு இனிய சுற்றமும் வான் பொருளும் நல்ல
உருவும் உயர் குலமும் எல்லாம் - திரு மடந்தை
ஆம் போது அவளோடும் ஆகும்; அவள் பிரிந்து
போம் போது அவளோடும் போம்.

பொருள்: ஒருவனைச் சூழ்ந்து வாழும் இனிய சுற்றமும், அவனுடைய பெரும் செல்வமும், அவன் அழகும்,

... Good relatives, youth and beauty, family fame etc

அவன் குலப் பெருமையும் லக்ஷ்மி கடாக்ஷம் ஒருவனுக்கு இருக்கும் வரையில் தான்.

... will belong to a person only as long as he has money.

 அவள் அகலும் போது இவையனைத்தும் போய் விடும்.

... Once the wealth Goddess Lakshmi, quits  everything goes away.

Song 30.

சாந்தனையும் தீயனவே செய்திடினும் தாம் அவரை
ஆந்தனையும் காப்பர் அறிவுடையோர் - மாந்தர்
குறைக்கும் தனையும் குளிர் நிழலைத் தந்து
மறைக்குமாம் கண்டீர் மரம்.

பொருள்:  தன்னை வெட்டுபவனுக்கும் நிழலைத் தந்து காக்கும் மரத்தைப் போல,

... A tree gives shade even to the man who is chopping it down.

 அறிவுடையார் அவர்தம் உயிருக்கே தீங்கு  செய்பவனையும் இயன்ற வரைக் காக்கவே செய்வர்.

... Similarly, wise men try their best to help even those people who had hurt or did bad to them.
